Spain Legalizes Homosexual Marriage

Today the country of Spain legalized gay marriage and now numbers among the Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada, as of last Tuesday, which has legalized gay marriage. According to media reports, polls that 75% of the electorate supports the government's liberal policies.

That is extremely sad that people that consider themselves Catholic would go against Church teachings. Look clearly to St. Francis of Assisi and other saints; St. Francis was a man that greatly opposed the bureaucracy of the Vatican at the time, but he remained Catholic and loved the Catholic faith.

Spain is 94% Catholic, but Socialist Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has done a lot against the Church, and therefore against Christ, including legalizing homosexual marriage in Spain. Spain is a highly Catholic nation but is falling to the "dictatorship of relativism". Seeing the faith of the majority of Spanish citizens, I strongly disagree with the quotation above.

If you begin to doubt just one article of the faith or a moral teaching then you begin the lose the entire faith. This has been proved time and time again when people leave the Church because they believe in their own morals and ideas. But, in truth, only God's morals matter because, after all, it is the Ten Commandments, not the Ten Suggestions.

The Bible, both directly and indirectly, condemns gay marriage.

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 19:1–24; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Mark 10:17–23; John 8:3–11; Romans 1:18–32; 3:23; 1 Corinthians 6:9–11; Galatians 6:1–5; 1 Timothy 1:9–10; 2 Timothy 3:16–17; James 3:2; 5:17

One key example: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, because it is an abomination" (Leviticus 18:22, Douay-Rheims)

The day seems to be dawning upon us in which every nation on this Earth can be determined as being for God or against Him. This are very alarming times.

How true. I only pray that, with the Church, "The gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." If we trust in the Lord's mercy then all things are possible - all things (Phillipians 4:13)

One must believe in all the articles of faith. This means they must believe in all parts of the Nicene Creed.

As to morals such as gay marriage, they must only believe in Five acts taht are intrinsically evil: abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and homosexual "marriage".

They may disagree with other teachings such as celebacy or contraception, but they must believe in the top five. There, however, is still room to move around in the faith.

Just because church officials were bad doesn't mean the Church was bad. The same is true of the government. Just because Nixon was corrupt didn't mean the same was true of our democracy.

Above I accidentally said that one does not have to believe in the Church's stance on contraception. My mistake. Yes, we do need to believe it unless the Holy Father says otherwise!

I'm afraid I disagree. Homosexual marriage, in the perspective of the Church is wrong and because it is more of a frivolousness that serves no purpose (i. e. no children can be conceived in such a union) I will agree with you and say it, in some respects, is wrong.

But…

I won't say that Spain is turning against God, per se. Homosexual marriage, while sinful, is largely a secular issue and governments, as they should, have the right to control secular affairs. If the government makes laws based solely on the religious views of the majority, the minority is oppressed.

Much of the West condemns certain Muslim nations for instituting Sharia Law as the law of the land, but as Muslim nations it is their right; however, Spain is not a Catholic nation, but rather a secular nation with a Catholic majority (according to Wikipedia, which might be wrong, Spain is 76% Catholic, not 94%) and therefore needs more than religious views to make laws, and, except from a spiritual standpoint, such civil unions physically hurt no one, including the homosexuals, so therefore the government has no right to restrict any union of two consenting citizens.

The best Catholics can do is not marry someone of the same-sex. From the perspective of the Church the 14% (or 6%) of the population that is not Catholic is living in sin for not being part of the Church. Yet, I’m sure you would even agree, that it would be appalling for Spain to outlaw all other religions.

If we think that Spain is turning against God because of a trivial matter like gay marriage, it is no wonder the Middle East thinks we, who do not abide by their practices or follow their laws, are godless...

Only a person who has full faith in God will follow the catholic church established by Him.So comparing this holy church with some autocratic and intolarent muslim countries is unfair.

The catholic church is not asking the goverments to persecute the gays and lesbians. They could do whatever they want.marry(sorry to use this holy word for such dirty relationships) or live together. Why is the goverment legalising it and spoiling the santity of marriage and the will of God.
Some church officials might have commited mistakes. What is the jusification for branding the whole catholic church (which is not a organisation but a spiritual family) as evil.
There will be ever lasting peace and happiness in europe and the whole world only when we accept Christ and the teachings of His church.
Has the church in its 2000 yrs history changed its major theological concepts and major teachings even in critical times and when some officials were misusing power....
God is with the church...He will guide it....See the church as your family..will u not forgive the mistakes commited by ur dear ones...dont judge the church based on a few...We r part of the holy family...and take the gospel and church teachings to the non believers.....
